Description

16 year old, dark bay, Viking Kemosabe is not only very handsome, he’s also as gentle and quiet as they come! This classy gelding made over $180,000 on the racetrack and has solidly had three months training under saddle and is a gem to ride. He has been started over trail obstacles as well, going over the wooden bridge, tarps and ground poles. From the trail obstacles, we began getting him ready for his debut at Equine Affaire.

Viking Kemosabe was chosen to be a Standardbred Ambassador at Equine Affaire in Ohio and really showed off the breed’s many wonderful characteristics. ‘Vic’ spent time meeting attendees in the USTA petting stall every day, showed breed versatility as the only horse in western attire at the” Standardbred’s Under Saddle” demonstration and then came back on the last day in his racing gear for a harness racing demo too!  In between those events, he was sought after and used as a demo horse by other clinicians and walked around the busy fairgrounds. He was completely unfazed by the sights and sounds of crowds, flags, tractors and the many new arenas he was used in over the course of the weekend. For his riding demonstration he walked into the crowded show arena like a very experienced show horse.  He walked and trotted with ease in an arena full of horses that were being ridden and driven around him.  This exposure is something that most of our horses do not have the chance to receive. Vic will be suitable for trail riding, parades, expos and light showing.  He has been ridden in the indoor arena by a 10 year girl and is wonderful with children- he’s gentle and does nothing fast. He has been working on his canter as well. He could be ridden English or Western, but prefers to carry his head in lower, ear level headset.  Although he raced on the pace, he does not offer to gait, so he will be best suited for someone wanting to do walk, trot, canter. There is really nothing this warhorse does wrong! He is a total gentleman both on and off the ground, he  drives easily and has hours of ride time.  He is a total sweetheart and so easy to have around.  He loves and adores people, treats and hugs. As most of our Standardbreds do, he hauls, bathes, crossties, stands for the farrier with no issues.  He has been turned out with other geldings and gets along with all of them. Approved applicants can contact Jennifer@horseadoption.com for more information on this very nice riding horse.
