The so-classy and full-of-presence “Thorpedia” is an 11-year-old gelding that came to New Vocations with a full year of professional under-saddle training under his belt. This 15.1-hand pacing gelding raced just 32 times, but was not going to be fast enough to compete at the top tracks, so his owner, who bred and raised him, opted to send him to a professional hunter/jumper trainer, where he learned quickly how to trot, canter and jump up to 3 feet. “Thor,” as he is affectionately known, loves being a riding horse and even surprised the trainer, who fell in love with his willingness to learn and his athletic ability: he learned to canter so easily and loves to jump.

We were so impressed with Thor’s training that we took him to Equine Affaire in Columbus, Ohio, in April and he participated in the Standardbred breed demonstrations and was used in clinics with Lynn Palm  Many thought he was some type of Warmblood or Thoroughbred cross with his pretty looks and balanced way of going. Thor was also used in the petting stall, where he greeted hundreds of visitors and won them over with his funny personality.Thor was wonderful at Equine Affaire and took everything in stride, just like a pro. He was not afraid of anything! From the large crowds to the tractors, trains, other horses, carts, draft horses, and the many scary things the Ohio State Fairgrounds has to offer, he was amazing! His video is posted of one of his demos at Equine Affaire last month.

Thor is going to make an excellent show horse for someone wanting to do hunters, dressage or pleasure/flat classes. He also will be super as a foxhunter hacking the trails; he can also be driven. He is very brave and has more training than any Standardbred we have ever had. Thor will be a super horse for someone who has goals they want to accomplish with a horse like this. He is fun to ride, easy to have around and has no bad habits. He loads, stands for the farrier, baths, crossties, etc. This is an exceptionally nice individual that needs to be shown and did we say how much he loves to jump!! Thorpedia is available to approved adopters only. His adoption fee is $1,000 plus a $500 donation to New Vocations.
