Calling all Bodemeister fans! This handsome son of the well-known sire is eager to please and ready to find his person. With his solid, sporty build, Stronger is a looker who gets a lot of attention when visitors pass through the barn. His soft eye and kind expression draw you in while his affectionate personality invite you to fall head over heels with this gentle gelding. The fastest way to win his heart is with a head scratch and cookie! Stronger is well-mannered on the ground and is inquisitive and friendly while being handled. He likes to sniff and interact with his handler while being groomed and tacked. Standing in the crossties, for the farrier, or for his mane being pulled is of no issue for him, he is very unconcerned by ground work.

Under saddle, Stronger has huntery, level topline and a flat, long stride at the trot and canter. He has three nice gaits, picks up both leads, and has more whoa than go. Stronger is working on relaxing and moving more freely from his shoulders and stepping up from behind, but has made great progress in such a short time already. He is learning the basic concepts of bending and softening through his poll and mouth. His lead changes are lovely and his concept of balance and rhythm are very good for a bigger guy. Despite the warrior-like personality his name invokes, Stronger is not the most brave horse and takes a lot of his confidence from his rider. He would be best matched to someone with a quiet confidence and a patient training style. He does best if given the opportunity to approach and figure out new things and concepts in his own time while being introduced to new things. Stronger can be spooky but has offered no naughty behavior in training. He is a very kind soul who really wants to please his rider and do the right thing. He is a very athletic/fancy guy and is certainly capable of being anything from a capable trail mount to a quality show horse.

Stronger is suitable for at least an intermediate rider working with trainer. He is suitable for most disciplines and lower level jumping.

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, we set a fee that will ultimately help each horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means we cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated, and in work with a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses each horse’s history and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for each horse after adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront, he or she will have more funds available to cover the continuing costs of properly caring for a horse.
