Two words that describe Russian Blue, or “Blue,” as we call him around the barn, are “laid-back” and “goofy.” Blue has a very in-your-pocket personality– if he hears a wrapper, he will try, literally, to be in your pocket! Blue loves to be involved in everything you’re doing and loves to play– fussing with and noshing on things just to get attention. He is very level-headed though, and is bold in new situations despite his young age.
Under saddle, Blue is more “whoa” than “go.” He is the Ferdinand of the barn: he likes to just ‘smell the roses.’ It is not unusual for Blue to just leisure stroll around and stop when he can get away with it, just to hang out and look around. He takes a very relaxed approach to riding but enjoys the time and attention. Blue would be suitable for an intermediate rider, especially one who doesn’t mind having to use a little bit of extra leg! Due to an old (cold, set) tendon injury on his left front leg, he would do best in a low-level riding career.
Blue stands well with or without crossties and is a gentleman for the vet and farrier. In turnout, he is happy individually or with others, and trots right up to you when it’s time to come in.
Even though Russian Blue never raced, he has the lineage of champions with standout bloodlines such as Hall of Fame racehorse, Tiznow, A.P. Indy and Storm Cat.
