His name might be that of a citrus peel (his sire is Lemon Drop Kid!), but this big guy is nothing but sweet! Rind has big, kind eyes and a soft expression all the time. He has a charm to him to accompany his good looks as well. While he does enjoy being playful– gleefully nibbling at a coat collar or a zipper pull– he is a true gentleman who is eager to please. He stands politely for the farrier and vet, and is generally unfazed by most situations, including clippers. He loves to get attention any time of day, and is always easy to catch in turnout.
Rind doesn’t mind leaving his buddies, but he is good company in turnout; he gets along with anyone since he is a middle-man in the herd dynamics. Rind is a level-headed guy in the ring and outdoors. Under saddle, he is pretty straight-forward, but he will need an advanced intermediate or advanced rider who can continue to develop him and bring him to his full potential. He does paddle a bit, which is most apparent at the trot, but he has good balance and coordination nonetheless.
Rind has a pretty impressive family tree (with big-name horses such as Lemon Drop Kid, Mr. Prospector, Seattle Slew, Buckpasser, Anees, Unbridled, Fappiano, and Caucasus), and while he didn’t prove to be a competitive racehorse, he is ready to excel in a new vocation. He would be fantastic mount for pleasure riding or competition.
Rind is eligible for the RRP’s 2018 Thoroughbred Makeover!
