Lucy is a very kind mare and loves people if treated well, but somewhere in her past has learned some self preservation. She does best when worked with daily because she likes a routine she can count on and her person has to have rules or Lucy will just do as she pleases, not always making the best choices. The longer she is here and the more she gets to know us, Lucy has become quite engaging with everyone with a better understanding of respect of ground manners. Under saddle she is a very methodical mare who needs to be comfortable with step A before going on to step B or she can stomp her feet and more in protest if pushed faster than her comprehension level. Lucy will try if she thinks the rider is being fair and clear in what they are asking, with an occasional need from the rider to just stay the course as Lucy determines if what you ask is doable or not. Kind of a girly TB thing with some of our mares and those mares make the most loyal partners once there is a bond formed with their person. She is not child friendly under saddle at this point in her life, needing an advanced rider or professional to bring her along slowly and confidently. Lucy loves attention and is good for grooming with no vices.
Try as they might, Lucy’s turn out buddies have not been able to rattle her as they chase her away from the others and Lucy just goes to the far side of the pasture to quietly graze on her own. She would like to be part of the herd and probably would be if she were out with less alpha-type mares, but she can hold her own with them and would be a good babysitter as she is quiet in turn out. Lucy is starting to show some nice movement to her gaits and might be a cute Dressage prospect, but she has no known injuries, so she is should be suitable for any discipline.
