Although he may look all grown up, Manny is a baby in every sense of the word. Leading him in from turn out is an exercise in patience as he has to look in every empty stall, say hi to every horse and drags you to anything that catches his attention. He has the size to do it and nothing hurries him along because he doesn’t seem to have a care in the world. It is no different under saddle because in his mind there is no point to working hard there either. Slowly but surely Manny is beginning to put some effort into his job as he matures and slow being the key word. That is why it is best that he have the time he needs to mentally grow into his body. He has the ability to walk and trot both on the lunge and under saddle, but is still too gangly and unbalanced to canter under saddle yet within the dimensions of an arena. I have witnessed him do clean, balanced lead changes with ease and canter off beautifully from the halt when out playing and he has the room to do so, so he is an athletic horse.
Manny will be for a professional or very experienced adult amateur because he needs professional training and he is big, strong and knows exactly how to use his size. He is very receptive to learning new things on the ground and seems very happy when praised for doing a good job. Manny really does love people and is always happy to have someone spend some quality time grooming him or simply just being with him. His turn out buddy will need to be tolerant of a pesky baby who can be the dominant horse if mares are in the adjacent field. Manny has no vices and retired from race training due to a tendon tear, but he has been fully rehabbed after having 8 months off. He will be fine since his next career won’t be as strenuous.
