Mac Dara, aka Woody, is our mighty little Trojan horse! Woody ran 9 times before his owner decided to retire him to his own farm. He was a family pet for the last 5 years. His owner passed away and his family decided this handsome guy was begging to do more than hang out in a field. He was a little shell shocked at first getting used to all the new sight and activities at our farm but has found his happy place. He goes out with one other gelding for night turnout as he was a bit picked on in a bigger group, so that means he is lower in the pecking order. Woody does have a benign tumor on his jaw that has not changed in years and does not need to be removed- basically the “leave well enough alone” idea. It is above the nose band and does not really interfere with anything, when you get used to seeing it you honestly forget its there. He does not have any stall vices.
Under saddle, Woody’s compact build makes him super agile and comfy to ride. He is a bit sheltered having spent so many years just hanging out so he really depends on his rider to give him quiet confidence. He is suspicious of going past the jumps with interesting shapes and flowers etc but when he is slowly introduced to them by his trusted human friends they become something he can easily conquer. He responds well when his rider sits quietly with soft hands and supporting leg to brave new worlds. Woody’s confidence is growing by leaps and bounds every day and he started over crossrails like a rockstar. He would be so much fun as a junior jumper or eventer for a intermediate rider working with a trainer!
