Kashability aka ‘Abe”is a lovely, dark, 13 year old pacing gelding. He had 133 starts and earned $84,216 on the track before coming to New Vocations.
Abe was adopted this past May and while he is loved, his adopter feels that he is underutilized and deserves more dedicated time than she is able to give.
In his new home, Abe settled in quickly. According to his adopter “The first thing we worked on was his rushing through gates. It took only 5-6 times to have him walk calmly through gates, stall doors, etc. We have done ground work and got him bending (used a carrot to have him stretch to his butt). When we first started, he would just keep moving his feet. He figured out that I was just asking to bend his head to me on his side. He has learned to give to pressure. He is good with spraying, putting on fly mask and leggings. I am certain if ridden at least 3-4 times a week, he would be the partner you are looking for. He needs a job that I am not able to provide-he deserves a home where he will be used.”
Turnout can be an issue for Abe. He was a stallion until he was 9 years old and on the track until last November, so turnout was a very new experience for him when he arrived to New Vocations in December. Homes with mixed herds will not be suitable and a way to separate him to give him time to adjust to a herd slowly is advisable. He was turned out with 2 geldings and did well during his tenure with New Vocations, however he has chased and been too dominant for his current adopter’s two 25 year old geldings.
Abe was also featured on the Post Time Show with Mike and Mike! Check out how much his racing connections loved him by following this link:
Original posting by New Vocations trainer: “This stunning gelding has had over three months professional training and is ready to go! “Abe” has a laid back personality and can even be lazy at times. Although he raced on the pace, he prefers to trot under saddle. Abe also is learning to canter and doing very well! This handsome guy is almost 16 hands, so a great size for most riders. Abe has been on multiple trail rides, alone, encountered deer and nothing bothers him! He was wonderful and loved every minute it of it! He seems to love being ridden in the snow. In the arena he is equally as good and has mastered going over the tarp under saddle and on the longe line, as seen in his obstacle video. Abe loves to be in the crossties and enjoys being groomed. He would be a great horse for someone who would like to drive as well. Abe has nothing but a joy to work with since arriving and picked up to riding very quickly. With his happy, laid back personality, Abe will be ideal for trail riding, foxhunting, endurance, driving and showing! Abe is currently going out with two geldings and has adjusted well to being turned out. Abe is just an easy fun horse to have around! He will make someone an awesome horse!”
Abe is Retrained & Remarkable Challenge eligible. As such he will receive a shipping credit of up to $500, and an invitation to compete in Challenge-specific classes at the 2019 New Vocations Charity Horse Show Series. R&R adopters who choose to participate in the competition will be eligible to compete for $2,500 in cash and prizes; they will also receive a FREE stall at the Charity Horse Show and FREE entry into Challenge classes.
