Go Della Go is a beautiful, nearly black mare with a heart of GOLD!
Willing and able, “Della” has shown to be quite clever and very quickly learned to walk, trot and canter on the lunge. Though still green, she is working very well in all three gaits under saddle. In her training we focus on her straightness and forward momentum, as she would prefer to be Whoa Della Whoa! She has three nice gaits and is a pleaser who is quite willing and has a very level-headed nature! Della is a solid and stocky girl who’s only going to get stockier as her new training adds new muscle and develops her top line.
Della is incredibly easy to work around and stands well in the cross ties, wash stall, and for the farrier. She is a happy girl and has been an easy keeper. She is turned out in a herd and gets along well with other mares. She came to New Vocation with her bestie, Miss Julia Beth.
Della sustained a small bow in her right front during her racing career but has had several months of rehabilitation and is now beginning to slowly return to work. She has settled into to her routine remarkably well and is very loving and kind mare. She’s settled in well to a new slower paced lifestyle.
Della appears to be an uncomplicated prospect and should be suitable for an intermediate level rider in a consistent training program to bring along. She is a fun prospect and will make a great partner for any discipline!

New Vocations’ adoption fees are intentionally set lower than the cost of buying most Thoroughbreds or Standardbreds through a private seller. In today’s market, it’s not unusual for horses coming right off the track to be listed for sale at a price between $2,000 and $5,000. At New Vocations, we set a fee that will ultimately help each horse find a home quickly. The program’s facilities are always at full capacity, which means we cannot take in an additional horse until one is adopted. Adopters should be encouraged to know that by adopting a horse through New Vocations, they are actually helping two horses transition to careers outside of racing.

Additionally, adopters get great value for their money: The majority of the horses have been in the program for a minimum of 60 days. During that time, horses are rehabilitated (if needed), socialized with other horses, fully evaluated, and in work with a professional trainer. New Vocations fully discloses each horse’s history and provides all available medical records, many of which include X-ray and ultrasounds.

While adoption fees are low, it should be noted that costs associated with ongoing care and additional training for each horse after adoption can be high. New Vocations hopes that by helping an adopter save money upfront, he or she will have more funds available to cover the continuing costs of properly caring for a horse.
