The classy pacing gelding Determine This raced an impressive 191 times and earned $392,114 during 8 years of racing. He changed ownership 33 times while competing in Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York and finally New Jersey. Past trainers and owners spoke very highly of the big-hearted pacer. His final owner, George Green, wanted the durable gelding to go to New Vocations and have the opportunity to excel in a second career. Determine This was both pleasant and wise. He transitioned to riding quickly and in May 2015, he was settling into his adoptive home with Colleen Nolan of Norwalk, CT. Nicknamed “Cricket,” Colleen had plans to make him an all-around horse for both arena and trails. This past November, Nolan and Cricket were the Standardbred breed representatives at the Massachusetts Equine Affaire. “Cricket participated in the under-saddle breed demonstration and spent several hours in the U.S. Trotting Association-sponsored petting stall,” Nolan said. “He was a star the entire weekend! He was so relaxed and seemed to really enjoy meeting people. I kept being asked how I desensitized him to such a crazy atmosphere. I answered honestly—that I had done nothing at all. He’s just seen so much as a racehorse and that is how off-the-track Standardbreds tend to be! “I love everything about Cricket. He is now trotting and cantering both directions. His willingness to try new things is just amazing. Thank you New Vocations for pairing me with this great horse!”
