Two years in the making with 264 pages and 218 color photographs, Beyond The Track, Retraining the Thoroughbred from Racehorse to Riding Horse, by New Vocations Program Director Anna Ford is now available for $30, and we’ll pay the postage.

Beyond the Track is breakthrough racehorse literature, concisely covering every facet of what to expect and how to get the most both mentally and physically from an off-the-track Thoroughbred.  Much of the book is applicable to Standardbreds, as well

This book is the ultimate in training manuals for anyone thinking about adopting an ex-racehorse. Anna Ford is uniquely qualified to be the author of this book, which reads easily and covers every important detail of transitioning a horse from the racetrack to his next career.  Every training illustration of the 218 photographs is an actual New Vocations horse.”

This is another inspiring work by equine artist Jeanne Schoborg that vividly depicts the racehorse adoption mission.  Be sure to notice that the reflection in the stream is a racehorse.  It was custom painted for New Vocations.  Postage paid 16″ x 20″ prints are available for $40.    All proceeds go toward the care and placement of retired racehorses.

This DVD is for those that are getting a horse straight from the track.  It covers both Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds describing how to properly feed and socialize the new retiree.  It shows how to teach the horse to “give” to the bit and get the horse to relax at a walk, trot, and canter.  For Standardbreds that may have never been ridden, it demonstrates mounting for the first time, teaching leg aids, and developing the rack.

The video was produced to ease the anxiety often associated with adopting an ex-racehorse.  It’s basic, visual, and easy to understand.   $20 postage paid

Artist Jeanne Shoborg donated a remarkable oil painting of Ferdinand, along with all rights, to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program.  The painting depicts the Kentucky Derby winner standing on a beach in Japan gazing across the ocean.  He’s remembering the mares and foals left behind in Kentucky.  Broken roses lay at his feet.  The daughter of Ferdinand’s former owners purchased the original.

Ferdinand did not fulfill expectations as a sire, was exported to Japan, and eventually, slaughtered. His story is a motivating force for racehorse adoption and retirement programs across the country.

Limited Edition prints measuring 18″ X 24″ are available for a $100 donation. Open edition are offered for $50.  Postage is included in the price. All proceeds go toward the care and placement of retired racehorses.
