The nealy black daughter of Keystone Raider who was adopted from New Vocations in 2000 by Mark Masters of Newark, Ohio. Since then, they have enjoyed showing, barrel racing and foxhunting.

In 2007, Midnight, as she is fondly called, won the S.P.H.O. High Point Horse Award. In 2007 and 2008, the mare helped mark win the S.P.H.O. High Point Adult Award, and together they won the High Point Contesting Award for the past three years. To keep her training interesting, they started foxhunting with the Miami Valley Hunt in 2007. Mark was awarded the honor of wearing the Miami Valley Hunt Club’s colors this year, and is currently a whipper-in with the Urbana, Ohio club. (Colors are an honor bestowed upon one who has demonstrated knowlegde and dedication to the sport of foxhunting.)

Mark credits much of his success in the hunt field to the trust that he and his horse have, and his horse’s speed and stamina. “I have yet to find the bottom of my horse,” Mark stated, when asked how his Standardbred holds up in a field dominated by Thoroughbreds.

This 15- year-old mare had a short-lived racin career with 10 starts, earning a total of $4,700. But she has proven to be priceless in her new vocations, and Mark is thankful every time he goes to the barn for the opportunity to own such a wonderful horse.
