What a soldier!  This amazing horse has fought many and won many battles.  He received an honorable discharge after his last race Feb 10th.   He’s healthy, fat, and fit for a new career as a pleasure mount.  Honorable Guy is by the top national sire Yankee Glide who stands for $15,000, and believe me, Guy shows that kind of class.  He has an exquisite head, large intelligent eyes, and incredible wisdom.  Guy raced 145 times throughout Ohio and Canada.  His legs reflect old injuries over the years, but he’ raced with them and continues to move quite sound.  He spent some time in the middle of his career in the Amish country, before returning to the track and winning an additional $65,000.  I don’t know that Guy had ever been ridden before the day I tacked him up and took him down the road.  Like most harness horses he didn’t understand leg aids at all.  It was simply “kiss” to move forward and pull the reins in the direction you want him to go.  He handled it all very good naturedly.  Though Guy raced on the trot, he paces going slow.  He will  trot out if pushed faster on a loose rein.  This fellow stands quietly to be mounted and stands like a statue when you say “whoa.”   He’s ready for trails right now, and any competent person can ride him.  Honorable Guy would be a good candidate for historical reenactments or for a family to ride or drive.  He has terrific manners on the ground, in the cart, and on his back.  His former owner said kids could even jog him.  This handsome fellow is a treasure from the track that deserves to be honored and appreciated for his many years of service.

Standardbred “Nu Day for Mac” has found a new home and a new job as a Foxhunting mount for his adopter Donna of Ohio. ” I took this horse sight unseen- on the recommendation of Dot and Winnie, who knew that I was looking for a smaller horse that I could fox hunt, use for the kids, and easily get on and off of in the field (where no mounting block is available) I don’t regret one day having gotten him! This is an exceptionally pretty, big, sound trotting mare.  For those of you that have been waiting for a standardbred to train for the English sports, SHE HAS ARRIVED!  Ghanima has big luminous eyes, a beautiful intelligent head, and a long shapely neck.  She is very well balanced, with a large, sturdy frame and strong feet and legs.  Her mane and tail are long and lustrous.  Ghanima trained in harness at two and early at three.  When she didn’t show enough potential in a May qualifier, they took her to the breeding shed.  She weaned a colt last fall and was sent to New Vocations this winter.  Ghanima is wise for her young age.  She’s had over 12 months in harness,been shipped long distances, resided in a large broodmare herd, raised a baby, and now had several weeks transitioning under saddle.  Haylie said that “Ghanima is an awesome mare. She has an extremely smooth trot that you can easily post or sit.   She was very calm outside even though the frigid conditions would make a lot of horses act silly. She was  brave and would cross anything out in the woods which makes me think she could go on and be a jumper.   Ghanima is a quick learner and has nice ground manners.  She is very attractive under saddle and will make someone a beautiful performance horse for show or trails.”    This exceptionally nice mare comes from a major breeder.  She’s been treated kindly and received the best of care throughout her life.  Ghanima is being placed without papers, but may be bred for sport horses.  She is a rare gem, sure to be cherished by her new owner.  See her video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2xmryBWBWo

Max’s Noble Lady is an exceptionally classy, well mannered pacing mare.  Her name fits her well as she is quite regal with large intelligent eyes and a very sturdy, correct frame.   Lady is a joy to catch, groom, tack, lead, load, and handle.   She is rich in life experiences with 180 starts over six years and 5,000 miles in harness.   Her legs are clean and cool, and she appears sound.  Lady retired in December because her owner could no longer enjoy watching her race.  Lady has benefited from 60 days under saddle provided by her owner to help ensure her success as a pleasure mount.  Haylie’s comments, “Lady was a dream to have.  Her rack was very smooth and fast.  She could really move outside.  The indoor doesn’t do her justice.  She would also trot on a loose rein.  She cantered readily, and it was very comfortable.  We even started into yields and side passing.   Lady is a real lover, too.  I let her go in the indoor to stretch her legs and have fun.  Instead she came over to where the dog and I were sitting and put her head in my lap.   She will definitely make a wonderful horse for the whole family.”  It’s quite evident in her video that Lady has learned a lot and is ready for spring trail riding.  She also has a good foundation to prepare for summer shows.  Lady is truly a treasure from the track.  She is sure to bring many years of enjoyment to her new family.

This is a very high quality ten yr old pacing mare by the leading Canadian stallion of 2009, Camluck, who stands for $12,500.   Lucky trained at two, but did not race.  She was bred at three and produced four foals, her last being weaned this past fall.  Her yearlings have averaged $9200 but that isn’t enough to keep breeding her commercially.  Lucky is in exceptional physical condition, clean legged and sound, with pretty white trim.   Stacy Tompson is breaking her to ride at his farm in Monterey, TN.  He said she is confident and riding well with a smooth gait.  She stands to be mounted and walks away from the barn quietly.   This nice mare is being placed without registration papers, but comes with her five generation pedigree and production record. 

All About Me is a 5 year old bay 14.3 hand pacing gelding.  Will was racing until January 2010 and retired sound and ready to begin his New Vocation.  Wills name suits him perfect, he loves things to be all about him.  He inherited the nickname Will because they were always telling him will you stop taking my glove, will you stop playing with the blankets.  He is a smaller horse that will probably bulk up as he gets older.  When ridden he likes to trot under saddle and was willing to do what we asked of him.  He loves the attention when being brushed always looking for treats.  He is good to cross tie, trim, and clip.  Will is going to be a great trail, pleasure, or dressage horse.

Prime Rib is a tall 16 hands, bay, 8 year old pacing gelding.  Rib raced 80 times and made over $40,000 lifetime.  He is a very kind horse that carries his head high and loves to be ridden.  Rib has an in you pocket kind of personality.  He loves to know what is going on in the barn and can’t wait for you to come and give him attention him.  He has no lameness issues but does have freeze marks on his legs.

Prime Rib is very good to ride, he loves to pace the whole time.  With his long back and long strides he is sure to be a hit on the trails or for pleasure riding.

Some Kinda Falcon raced at three, four, and five then supposedly was an Amish horse before being purchased ten years ago by a family with very young kids.  As the story goes, he taught the youngsters to ride and was a good, extra trail horse for company.  As they put it, “he proved to be worth his weight in gold.”  The girls eventually advanced onto other horses and about a year ago Petey was sold to a teenager that needed a deadbroke horse to build her confidence.  Petey was the perfect horse.  Riders of all ages and sizes have ridden Petey during the past year.    Petey has a natural smooth rack and will canter if pushed.  His family is relocating out of state, and sadly, cannot afford to take “Petey.”  He’s a little thin, his feet need trimmed, and he is blind from an injury to his left eye.  But, by far, his gentle spirit and loving attitude out weigh that.  Here is the rare horse that is suitable for husbands & kids.  See his video and pass the word.  We are placing Petey from a stable west of Greenville, Ohio.  Contact Amanda Hiles at (937) 273-2264 for more information.  Approved adopters should contact dot@horseadoption.com and fax a contract to 937 947-3201. 

This gorgeous unraced Standardbred gelding has been under saddle since 2005 as an English pleasure horse for trail riding, occasional lessons and Parelli Natural Horsemanship Level I training.   Storm has a big, beautiful trot and excellent jumping potential!  Storm is a sturdy, solid 16 hands, and is in excellent health with good ground manners.  He’s got an easygoing, friendly, curious nature.  He’s great with kids, dogs and other horses. His beautiful, shiny bay coat and conformation gets lots of admiring looks.  Many people mistake him for a warmblood. Our winter pictures do not do the guy justice.  He is a gorgeous blood bay with three white socks and a blaze.  Tall, stout, and has  great expression.  Luca raced only 6 times as a 3 yr old.  Last year August he sustained a small hairline fracture to his knee, common and not serious injury.  He could have returned to racing after rehab but since he was not competitive they decided to retire him.  Luca has been fully rehabbed and the knee has been x-rayed and vetted sound for any discipline including jumping.  He has been started back under saddle and is doing well.  Luca is more of a dressage type mover but could also do hunters.  He will definitely catch any judges attention no matter which arena he finds himself in.

Luca is by Pulpit and out of a Dynaformer dam.  He has had the best of care and handling his whole life which is evident in his good ground manners.  He is used to being out with other horses and does well.  He has no vices.

This truly majestic 3 year old son of Lemondrop Kid is the complete package.  He is unraced but was in race training for over a year.  He simply was too big and too slow.  Standing already 16.3h and still growing, he has the height, looks and temperament to go far. With a gentleness that belies his size and age, he has impeccable ground manners and is good to clip, shoe, bath etc. He has recently been evaluated by our vet (including all previous x rays and documentation) and deemed sound for any pursuit including jumping. Under saddle, he is green but with additional time and training, he has the potential to do well in either hunters or dressage.

Never did a name match a horse so perfectly, she truly is a sweetheart. Having only been with us for 1 week, she quickly adjusted to her new life and surroundings after being out at pasture for 4 years and has never looked back. Standing 15.3hh, she loves human interaction and is easy to deal with in all aspects. Great with clippers, bathing, grooming, farrier etc, she will stand untied in the aisle while saddled. She lunges great in both directions moving very nicely and has been started back under saddle. With her great disposition and willingness coupled with the fact that she is sound and uninjured, she has potential in any field. Now in a daily training program, she will only improve further. The farm’s sweetheart is bound to be the judge’s favorite!

T is a very nice tall mare with a lot of potential in any field.  She raced only 3 times and was retired because she was not competitive.  Her last race was January 8th where she came seventh.  She is by Deputy Commander and out of a Victorian Prince dam. She has only been in the program for a short time.  T is very forward ride, she is green so will require a more experienced rider but once aware of what is asked of her, the sky is the limit. She is sound and uninjured.

She is good to clip, bathe, shoe etc and will stand untied while groomed and saddled. Lunging nicely both ways, she has been started back under saddle after a few weeks of downtime and is doing very well. She enjoys turnout time with 3 other mares and is good to catch and also handle in the stall. Already exposed to cows, we expect to broaden her horizons more over the next few weeks.

Chantal is an elegant, sensible young filly. Naturally a balanced mover who already moves freely through her shoulders and drives from behind. She has proven to be very athletic and sound both physically and mentally. Chantal was not raced as a 2 yr old but went on to race 8 times as a 3 yr old. In December she strained her left front tendon. It was very minor, is not very visible to the eye, but slight thickening can be felt. She was given almost two months off and has just started back under saddle. She has been 100%, is being ridden 3-4 times a week, and turned out daily with no problems. Chantal has a soft mouth, and responds to leg cues. It would not take long for her to learn a new career. She has a great start just needs more guidance and consistency. Chantal should be suitable for any disciplines including jumping. She has no vices.

Colby is truly a very kind quiet gelding especially for his young age.  On the ground he is a perfect gentleman and has great manner.  He is the  type of horse that you can just go in his stall and hug and love on all day and he will enjoy every second.   Colby raced 7 times last year as a 2 yr old but he never really was competitive.  He also never went fast enough to injure himself.  He officially retired from the track in December, had a month and half of turn out and then made his way to us in February.  Being that he is just turning 3  he has done very well with just a short amount of arena work.  Colby has proven to be a very willing partner who wants to learn.  He has a solid foundation and simply needs someone to continue to show him the ropes and slowly introduce him into his next career.  Don’t let  his height fool you… he is still growing!  He doesn’t feel small to ride because he has a large barrel and longer step.  He would be a great project for just about any discipline including jumping, pony club, or eventing.  Colby has nice conformation and is well balanced.  He is of the Mr Prospector and Seattle Slew decent.

LaMocha is a very cute 15 hands, bay, 4 year old trotting mare.  She has kind eyes, beautiful wavy mane, tail and foretop, and a petite body.  Mocha never raced because she just wasn’t fast enough.  When you first meet Mocha you may think grumpy however that is not the case just spoiled, after further review I discovered Mocha loves to be messed with.  When you begin to brush and play with her she melts.  She loves to hold the lead rope with her lips when I have her in the cross ties.

Moch was excellent to ride, she did not spook and was happy to do whatever we asked of her.  Mocha is looking for someone to take the time to bond with her and become more socialized.  She is going to be an awesome trail, pleasure or driving horse.

This is a very pretty, big bodied, sound pacing mare.  Formica has a large kind eye and long neck.  She is well balanced with clean legs and good feet.  Formica is by the great Little Brown Jug winner Life Sign.  She was second in the $70,000 LaPaloma stakes at two and took a nice record of p,2,1:58.1f.   Formica was bred at three and produced five foals, all fillies.  Two have raced well, but not attained the brilliance necessary for this mare to be commercially profitable.  Therefore, Formica was sent to New Vocations to be developed for a new career.  This lovely mare is transitioning as a pleasure mount under Stacy Thompson.  He said, “Formica has a very good single footing gait and will make a fast speed racking mare.  If shod properly, she could be a show horse.  She will make a lead horse.  She goes where you point her.  She stands quietly to be mounted, walks calmly away from the barn, and stands still when you stop her.”  Fromica is being adopted without registration papers, but comes with her performance record and five generation pedigree.  She is being placed from Stacy Thompson’s farm near Monterey, TN.  To discuss this mare call Stacy at (931) 303-3060.  Approved adopters can fax a contract to him, attn Pat Thompson at (931) 526-4601.

This big beautiful filly would make the perfect AQHA broodmare. She only raced 4 times but sustained a small chip in her right front ankle early in January. We are waiving her fee because she will need to be on stall rest till March and then slowly started in a small paddock. She is currently walking sound and simply needs sometime for the ankle to be 100% . We do have current x-rays on her ankle and her prognosis is good for flat work and obviously would not bother her at all to be a broodmare. How Cool is a sweet natured filly, doesn’t have a mean bone. She is well bred filly by Is it True and she was a 40k purchase as a yearling.

Bandit has been New Vocations Chattanooga Facility’s beloved family pet for four years.  We adopted him as a “husband horse” and he took on that role perfectly.  He has taken the inexperienced equestrian husband Todd on many beautiful and safe trail rides.  He is the first pick at our boarding facility for small children or inexperienced riders.  He is simply quiet and safe.  However if you would like him to “get up and go” he certainly will step up to the plate and is a lot of fun either in a collected smooth rack or flying at a fast pace.  He did a beautiful job at a Girl Scout event where he gave pony rides to many little girls. We bought him a cart shown in the pictures.  He taught Angie how to drive and will do a perfect 180 degree pivot turn around in the driveway.  He has taken me down the road to the local store.  He is patient, kind quiet and safe.  Bandit has some injuries from the track.  His extensor process of  the right front P3 was fractured and has healed well and his stifles are quite stiff .  Our farrier knows just how to slowly and patiently get him to relax his rear limbs for trimming as flexing is painful.    He needs to be stalled part time.  On our farm he has enjoyed winters in at night and summers in during the day.  He is a connisseur of the finer things and seems to appreciate his fan in the summer and raincoat in the winter more than the average horse. He is 15 hh and merely 700 pounds so he is a small horse.  The adult rider in the pictures is 5′3″  and the boy is 8 years old.

Global Village is a bold and big pacing gelding that is 16.2 hands tall at the withers.  “Go Go” raced 138 times and earned $187,000 in his career as a race horse.  Go Go last raced in April 2009 and retired sound. Go Go does have one larger ankle in front that has some pin fire marks, but this does not bother him and will not effect him as a riding horse.

We have ridden Go Go and he is very fun to ride! He is not spooky or scared of cars, dogs, tractors or bikes. He is a really classy horse! He does pace easily under saddle and is a beautiful mover.  Go Go will make a nice horse for trails or therapy riding.  He also could make a nice driving horse.  Go Go has a lot of class and presence about him and is very flashy under saddle!  He has a nice long mane and forelock as well. Go Go enjoys going outside and is fine inside as well.  He stands great for the farrier and in the crossties.

JJ is a handsome gentle fellow who loves attention.  He raced 65 times and won over 220K .  JJ was officially retired last July due to an ongoing suspensory injury.  He has been fully rehabbed and turned out for 5 months.  We just started him in the program and his is doing well.  Truly wants to please and listens well to all leg and hand aids.  JJ should be suitable for dressage or any flat work.  He should also be fine for recreational jumping, trail riding or fox hunting.  JJ is a tall and stout horse that could easily carry a larger rider.  He has  no vices, grooms, stands for farrier, and enjoys turn out.

Hometown is a cute gelding with a lot of personality. He raced from age 2-5 and retired last summer. He has a heart of gold and truly loved to race. In his last race he strained both front suspensories but won the race! He has been fully rehabbed and turned out now for 6 months. We just started riding him and he is like little Cadillac, does whatever and goes where ever you want him. Hometown does have a shorter stride and maybe better suited for western riding. He should be sound for any flat work, pleasure riding and recreational jumping.

Hometown is used to daily turn out. He loves food and will talk to everyone during feeding time. We have reframed from giving him treats by hand because he is mouthy and like to taste clothing. Never mean but just likes to play.

Serious riders take head of this is very pretty, big, sound, pacing mare.  Kimmie is by the great Abercrombie, a many time National leading Sire and Broodmare Sire, and she looks every inch the part!Kimmie was broke in the fall of her yearling year and trained through the spring at two, but was sent to the breeding shed rather than the race track.  She raised five foals, four of which raced, but none proved profitable enough to continue her broodmare career.   She was sent to us, broke to ride, and is now ready for a new vocation.  Kimmie has a very pretty head and eye with a long, hingy neck.  She is well balanced with clean, straight legs, and good feet.  This mare has a smooth single foot gait when asked properly, or she’ll trot on a relaxed rein.  She’s at a point in her training where her adopter can choose whether to encourage her trot or her smooth racking gait.  Haylie rode her a few weeks during the worst of the winter.  She said, “When we got all that snow I saddled her, dallied up a cotton rope on a sled, and pulled people around on her. She took it like a pro with all the laughing and screaming, and the rope pressuring her along the side.”  Sweet Kim proved to be a calm, confident ride, but she has a motor if someone wants to utilize it.  This mare has  the conformation, size, soundness, athletic ability, and mind to be suitable most disciplines.  All she needs is a loving, capable person to show her the way.

This is an extremely well bred, big, stout pacing gelding that should mature to 16.3h or larger.  He comes from a major breeding farm that did not sell him because he is less than perfect, and they strive for perfection in everything that carries their name.  During a routine pre sale exam they stumbled on a heart murmur.  The vet states, “Jarrett has always looked great and been tolerant to exercise.  It won’t bother him.”  However, it makes him less than perfect.  This gelding has not been broke, but has been allowed to grow and mature under the best of conditions.  He has an outstanding future ahead of him in whatever discipline his adopter chooses.   Jarrett has been handled daily the last few months.  Tiffany states, “Jarrett is dominant in the pasture when food is involved, however he is nice to handle and has a nice personality.  He’s easy to catch, stands in the cross ties, and picks up his feet.”   Though Jarrett is pacing bred, he has a bold, fluid trot, and can be expected to only trot unless he is trained to pace/rack.  This is an unusual opportunity to obtain a sound, young horse with the size, look, and athletic ability of a Warmblood and the work ethic and inherent endurance of a Standardbred.    Jarrett is located on a farm near Harrisburg, PA.  To discuss him further please contact Tiffany Carey at  (717) 512-7716 or email kozmiquefarms@gmail.com.  An approved adopter can commit to Jarrett by contacting Dot Morgan (937) 947-4020  and faxing a contract to (937) 947-3201. 

Honor is a true  gem who has a ton of potential.  He ran his last race on January 2nd and arrived to our program a week later.  With just a short amount of time he has proven to be a real sweetheart.  Very pleasant horse to work with both on the ground and under saddle.  He has no apparent injuries, clean legs.  He only raced 7 times and was retired because he was not competitive.  We have already started working him under saddle and he is naturally well balanced, has a soft mouth, and is very solid to ride.   He moves well through his shoulders and has nice hunter movement.  The skies the limit for this gelding. He should be suitable for any discipline including jumping or eventing.  He has no vices.  Honor was a $200,000 two year old and is by Awesome Again.

Sammie is a gorgeous, royally bred son of a recent Derby winner that needs a quiet, low key home as primarily a pasture pet with the occasional trail ride. He is sound and uninjured but based on a lengthy evaluation; he appears to suffer from Recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis (RER) which is a specific form of tying-up. In a constant training program on a busy farm, he becomes anxious especially when ridden in the company of other horses which then leads him to tie -up. When ridden casually alone, it does not happen and he has been trail ridden extensively on his own, encountering farm machinery and other obstacles including creeks and streams. He has even popped a few small cross rails. He is a nice ride with a lovely canter.

He has lots of personality and loves being played with. He will stand untied while he is groomed, clipped, bathed etc, has no vices and is good to catch and load. He is an easy keeper and does not require any medication nor does he require a special diet. He has always been sound and has been on group turnout for the past 3 months with other geldings and does very well. As he has special requirements, his adoption fee is waived and $150 will be made available to help towards his shipping costs. Should he be adopted within a 4 hour radius of Lexington, delivery can be arranged for him at no charge. Sammie is looking for a special home with somebody that can work around his limitations and just enjoy him. He is also up to date on all shots, teeth floating and worming.

Brunette is a tall, young, pretty mare with the potential for any activity.  She ran her last race in December and was retired because she was not competitive.  Brunette ran 15 times and only won one race.  She is well mannered and easy to handle, lunging nicely in both directions. She learns quickly and is very smart with no vices. Due to bad weather, she has at this time had only limited training but will over the next few weeks have more riding hours put on her including both arena work and trail riding. With the limited amount of work that she’s currently had while at the facility, no problems are anticipated. On her first day in the arena, she lunged very nicely and calmly while 5 other people rode and jumped around her.

More details will be available as her training progresses but we expect great things from Brunette.

**UPDATE**Brunette has been trail ridden around the farm several times.  She is happy to go alone or with another horse.  On her rides away from the arena, Burnette has encountered cars, dogs and farm machinery and has handled the new experience very well. She continues to be a pleasure to work with and improves with each ride.

Paddy was born and raised in  Ireland.  In 2008 he was bought specifically to be imported to the US and race in the Juvenile Breeders Cup Turf.  He did race in the Breeders Cup and then only one other time in 2009.  Unfortunately Paddy never was competitive in the US.  His owners refused to put him in a cheaper race so he was donated.  Considering that Paddy left the track in December and was just gelded in January he is very well behaved.  Easy to handle on the ground and very solid under saddle.  He is a happy gelding that truly lost his desire to race.  Paddy is very content being schooled on the flat, doesn’t mind other horses in the arena, and is very brave.  He has no apparent injuries and should be suitable for any discipline including jumping.  Paddy will need some time before being turned out with other horses, but he is fine for now being out by himself.

This tall rangy mare is as sweet as her name.  She ran her last race on December 31st and was retired because she was no longer competitive.   Heavenly raced 40 times and ran at some of the bigger tracks such as Keeneland and Churchill.  With only a short amount of time off she has settled in well.  She has started schooling on the flat and has been a nice honest horse to ride.  Heavenly has clean legs, retired with no injuries.  Her muscles are still tight over her hindend but will continue to loosen up with turn out and steady flat work.   She should be suitable for any discipline including jumping.  Heavenly would has be a nice sport horse broodmare.  She is of good size, has nice bone, and correct conformation.  She is by Mongoose and out of a Halo dam.

Zoom is a friendly California bred gelding, who raced 41 times and retired in November because he was no longer competitive. He is nothing like his name, but is rather very attentive gelding and well mannered both on the ground and under saddle. He has clean legs with no apparent injuries. Zoom would be a great all around horse, something to just jump on and go. He has a fun loving disposition, the type of guy that just says “ok” to everything. Zoom does have an old cornea scar on his left eye, most likely several years old. It has been check out by a vet, who verified that he does have decent vision in the eye. It doesn’t effect him at all just looks different.

Zoom is a quiet gelding, loves being outside, gets along with everyone, and is rather easy to ride. He should be suitable for most disciplines including lower level jumping. We just posted a video below of his first day going over ground poles. He had no issues with them and seemed to like the challenge of something new.

Halters For Hope collects worn halters, with engrave nameplates, from the sport’s top racehorses, sires and broodmares, and offers them for sale to benefit horse rescue organizations that cater to saving Standardbreds.

100 percent of the proceeds from these halters go to the rescue groups!

Halters are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. E-mail your request to haltersforhope@ustrotting.com, and you will be contacted when the chosen halter is available and told to send the necessary donation. Upon receipt of the donation, Halters for Hope administrator Andy Cohen will ship the halters to purchasers. Donations (checks or money-orders) will be made payable directly to the charitable rescue organization stipulated for the specific horse.

Only one halter per horse is available at a given time, but a waiting list will be established to fulfill all orders. If your selected halter is not immediately available, you will be placed on the wait list and notified when it is on hand.

Cass is a nice tall filly who is just turning 3. She was unraced because she never showed much talent at the track. However, Cass shows a lot of talent as a potential hunter/ jumper. She is young but very mature physically and mentally. Cass moves extremely well through her shoulders and just floats across the ground, even with out shoes. We have just started to work with he under saddle after having a month of turn out and she is ready and willing to work. She has a soft mouth and is a solid ride. This young filly should be suitable for any discipline including jumping. With the proper training she should easily excel in the show ring. Cass is a granddaughter to Unbridled.

Snuff is a sweet wise gelding. He raced 60 times and officially retired in November because he was no longer competitive. Snuff has had a couple months of turn out prior to coming to our farm. He is in good weight and great health. Snuff has no apparent injuries other than old osselets on both front ankles, which he raced with for years. We have started Snuff back under saddle and he has been nothing but a gentleman. He has a good work ethic and really wants to learn. Snuff should be suitable for most disciplines including some lower level jumping. We feel due to his lengthy race record he would be best suited as a pleasure or dressage mount. Snuff has no vices, is easy to work around, good ground manners, stands for farrier, and enjoys attention.

Cat Singer is a 10 year old gelding that knows he’s very special having won nearly $420,000 in just 28 starts/ 7 were stakes wins. His donor retired him immediately upon realizing he was no longer a Stakes horse and he spent 12 months turned out on his owner’s farm prior to arriving at the program. He retired sound with no injuries and is now ready for a new career – his donor thought he was bored with the pasture life. He has been turned out with both mares and geldings and gets along great with both.

Cat Singer has no vices and is good to shoe, clip etc. He is a kind, honest horse and treated with respect, he will do his best for his rider. Not spooky, he has been ridden in the arena and goes very nice and easy. He will stand untied while groomed and saddled and has always had the most impeccable manners. He does not need daily riding, you can just hop on whenever and he’s content to go for a ride.

Cat Singer has shown us that his heart lies in trail riding. Solid and sensible, he has been trail ridden alone and in company all over the farm and even with horses running in the pasture next to him, he remains unfazed. Nothing flusters him and he loves to go on leisurely strolls with the dog and take in the sights. He is particularly fond of stopping on the top of the hill and surveying the farm before returning home. This is a trait he had at the track, he liked to stop and watch the other horses work. Cat is very smart with bags of character and impossible not to love. He is on daily turnout on a 23 acre field and always comes when called.

As a precautionary note, any rustling of mint wrappers will result in the nearest person being mauled for treats – he knows all about mints and will accept no substitute!

If All Else Fails is a 15.3 hand,  8year old bay pacing gelding,  that raced 84 times and made over $17,000.  Iffy has been retired because he just doesn’t seem interested in racing anymore.  Iffy has been started under saddle and enjoys being ridden.  He is a big gelding that prefers to trot under saddle on a loose rein, but can also pace.  He is very willing to go where ever we ask him to and is not spooky at all.  Iffy will make a wonderful trail horse and family horse for all to enjoy!

Iffy has some  freeze marks on his right hind leg that you can barely see, other than that he has very clean legs and is sound.  He was gelded two years ago and is now a,” in your pocket”  gelding that is being turned out with mares and causes no problems.  He stands great in the crossties and always has his head over the gate asking you for more treats.  He is excellent for the farrier, as well. He is very laid back and looking for someone to enjoy his fun personality. 

If All Else Fails Video

Class is a nice big stout almost black gelding. He raced 49 times over 6 years. Class was foaled in Argentina and raced there until he was imported to the US in 2007. He retired in August of 2008 because he was no longer competitive. Since that time he has had a good amount of time off with turn out, was adopted out, but then came back due to a weak left stifle. He is now being worked under saddle and doing well. His video is current although the photos are from the Fall. He has a nice forward way of going, eager to work and please. He would be best suited for pleasure riding, dressage and possibly some recreational jumping. Class gets along great with the other horses and had no vices.

Red is a very pretty, tall, and stout gelding. Rather confident for his young age and has a kind nature. He is a friendly guy who wants attention and excels when he gets it. He has now been schooling on the flat since December and is doing extremely well. Red easily goes into a nice rhythm, has a super soft mouth, and is already moving off the leg. He has the mind to do about any discipline. He has been vetted sound for any discipline including jumping.

Red has the disposition to be perfect for someone who wants a big handsome horse to ride around the farm and school for local shows either in dressage or in the hunter ring. He has no vices, gets along well with the other geldings, and has good ground manners.

Skyla is a beautiful mare with a 10 trot. She originally went through our program as a two year (6 yrs ago) and has been with the same adopter since. Unfortunately due to finances she has come back to us to find a new home. As a two year old she was turned out for 6 months before she started schooling on the flat. Her adopter worked closely with a trainer as she was transitioned and eventually entered hunter/jumper training. She was not jumped until she was 4 years old and has been shown for about 5 years during the summer at local shows. The winter of 2005, Skyla spent sometime down in Wellington, Florida and took several lessons with a grand prix trainer. She never was shown but rather just schooled and hacked around the show area. Her favorite part was riding up and down the canals between the horse show grounds and the farm. She also spent sometime in South Carolina while her adopter attended college. She was shown at a couple “C” rated shows in the 2’6” division of both hunters and jumpers. Although she would win the flat classes she was a bit hot over fences so always did better in the jumper classes. She has also been trail ridden many times in Ohio and South Carolina and seems to enjoy it better than the show scene.

Skyla has had about 8 months off from riding. She is a bit out of shape but you can tell she is well schooled. It would not take long to get her back in shape. The video and conformation photos are current.

We feel Skyla would be the perfect horse for someone who wants to pleasure ride and do a couple small shows a year. She is well schooled but does get excited when jumping a course. However, she is quiet, calm and brave on the trails. Skyla would also make a lovely sporthorse broodmare. She is on the smaller side but has huge fluid gaits. She has good grounds manners, great feet, gets along well with other horses.

This is an exceptionally pretty, good natured, sound pacing gelding.   He raced 60 times over three years the last on Dec 19th, but isn’t profitable enough to continue.  Wiseman is, indeed, very wise.  He is pleasant and accommodating in every way.  He was ridden extensively around the racetrack grounds by the trainer’s family.  He’s used to little kids running around and climbing all over him.  Wiseman has excellent driving manners, as well, and recently carried his driver and his groom to their wedding.  They said he stands quietly to be hooked and doesn’t spook at anything.   In spite of our frozen, lumpy, slick conditions Wiseman showed his athletic agility by readily trotting, cantering, and pivoting in the round pen.  This fellow is truly beautiful inside and out.  He is sure to make someone very happy.

This is a strikingly beautiful, tall gelding. Because he is so personable when he arrived at the barn, all of the boarders wanted to ride him. Under saddle he did not disappoint, he is responsive and fun to ride. There aren’t many horses whom I ask to climb on our rock on their first ride, but Interceptor was such a good boy, we knew he would do it for us. This fine gelding was imported from England and raced a total of 21 times. He strained his left front suspensory in the Fall of 2008 and has been fully rehabilitated and is sound. He will be able to be a nice dressage, pleasure or trail horse. He gets along well with our geldings and has excellent ground manners.

How many people does it take to save a retired racehorse and put it in a home?  In Forever Mania’s case it will take seven entities working together to give him a future.  Lost and Found in Pennsylvania saw the dark bay gelding in the kill pen at New Holland, PA.  He was quite thin and had a blemish in his right eye, but his vision is good.  An anomamous person put up the money to purchase him.  He was quarantined for 30 days before another group paid to have him shipped to the Kentucky Equine Humane Center.  There he was wormed, trimmed, and vaccinated.  The vet evaluated him and said he had good potential as a riding horse.  They continued his good feed and care for another 30 days.  In order to ease the numbers at the KyEHC, Walnut Hall Ltd arranged to have the gelding shipped to New Vocations in Ohio.  We identified him as Forever Mania.  He raced on the pace at three, four, and five.  Then he shows up at New Holland ten years later.  We don’t know what he’s been doing the last five years.  I tacked him up and took him down the road.  He didn’t act like he’d been ridden, but was agreeable and caught on quickly like most of them do.  He even racked smoothly when I collected him in the bridle.   He didn’t hug the right side of the road or stand like a statue when I said “whoa” so it doesn’t appear that he’s been pulling an Amish buggy.  I’m guessing he’s been a pasture ornament that got too expensive to keep.  Forever is easy to catch, groom, and tack.  He walks quietly beside you and doesn’t seem spooky at all.   He has large, kind, intelligent eyes that speak to your soul.  He is grateful to be one of the lucky ones, that he’s here, loved, and well fed.     Now, we’re looking for the seventh entitiy in this saga, the one that will give this gentle gelding a home and a future. 

This is a gorgeous, big, sound, trotting mare.  She raced twice at two and wasn’t competitive.  She was bred at three and produced seven foals, none of which were profitable.  Now, Super is ready to branch out into a new career.  She’s been ridden six weeks and has proven to be smart and willing.  Her trainer shares, “Due to the mud and cold, Another Super was only on the trails two times, but she did very well. She would, however, need some coaxing to go over the water. But other than that she was fine she would step over anything you asked and would keep trucking. She was content at the walk and would probably walk all day.  She will stand for hours just waiting for you to tell her to move. Not to mention she stops on a dime and pivots very well as you can see. She works very well on leg pressure and you really don’t have to do anything with her face.  She’s still green enough to be a little jumpy if something comes running up behind her or jumps out of the woods, But again that’s typical.”  Super is a big, tall, large framed mare with a stylish way of moving.  She trained and raced on the trot, but it wouldn’t take much to get her to rack in a leverage bit, if desired.  This mare has a gorgeous refined head, and her neck comes out of her withers like a Saddlebred.  She could produce some very talented racking babies, besides being a pleasure mount.  Please consider adding her to your herd for riding, driving, or breeding.  Super has many good years ahead of her and will reward you for your love and effort.  See her video on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdAUeyPvki8

Daffys Delight – Daffy is an unraced gelding who really is a delight. This horse breaks all stereotypes regarding TB’s that have been in race training. He is very calm, quiet and easygoing and would be an ideal family all-around horse. Daffy goes with the flow and nothing flusters him. He’s been turned out with 15 other horses and gets along with everyone. He can be brought in from the field and stalled and does not get excited about being apart from his field buddies. He has gone several weeks without being ridden and will be as quiet as he is if ridden daily. He likes to trail ride both alone and in company and has gone out on over 200 acres encountering creeks and cattle. He’s happy to be ridden in the arena and with a little more work, he’ll be a very nicely schooled horse. He knows his leads in both directions, does not pull, spook and has no vices. He has been started over small cross rails and although very green at jumping, he’s always willing to try. This horse is honest to a fault. Evaluated by our vet, he is deemed sound for any type of work.
